Biomimetic Structures
Track: Biomimicry + Biophilic Design

Humans have long looked to the elegant structures in nature for inspiration. From a delicate bird’s wing to the strength of a tree trunk, nature has lessons for how to create beautiful structures with incredible structural efficiency. Over the past decade, the analytical methods of evaluating these shapes and translating their efficient forms into built systems has advanced rapidly. New evaluation tools and 3-D models are putting biomimetic structures within reach of architectural designers. This session will provide lessons learned from leading structural engineers and designers looking to apply nature’s forms to today's designs.
